This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Construction Inspector on our Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) contract in the Baltimore, MD metro area.  Be involved in projects with our PMCM Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

 

 

Your Impact:

Job Overview:

  • The Construction Inspector should be experienced in inspections of civil, mechanical, and/or electrical construction projects.  As such, their duties include but are not limited to:
  • work in different shifts according to the work schedule and as directed by the Project Manager (PM).
  •  This position will be reporting directly to the PM while working with the Resident Engineer (RE) to perform the following duties:
  •  Respond to the Metro PM calls for the new projects under the Metro Ancillary Repairs and Maintenance Contract.
  • Perform field inspections as needed with the RE to verify the existing conditions, required repairs and the best methods to achieve.
  •  Assist the RE to perform site measurements all over Metro System or elsewhere if required by the MPMO PM.
  • Assist the RE to collect all the available data related to the issue under study including drawings, specifications, proposed repairing methods, proposed repairing materials, etc.
  • Prepare the available scenarios for repairing methods to discuss with the RE and PM.
  • Attend the pre-bid meeting to assist the RE and PM to answer any questions received from the contractor related to worksite.
  • After the project award, assist RE to review all the submittals, transmittals, RFI’s, change orders and to respond accordingly if directed by PM.
  • During the construction phase will be responsible to perform site inspections with respect to the contractor on-site performance to assure that the contractor is complying and fully understand the best methods of construction with respect to the work quality, efficiency, safety and preserving the environmental.
  • Will be responsible for fully escorting contractor(s) all the time on-site when construction work is performed.
  • Required to stop any insufficient on-site actions resulting from the contractor’s performance using all the authority given to him by the Administration and report any deficiencies to the RE.
  • Complete and submit on a daily basis to the RE inspection Daily Reports and any other related work reports as directed by the RE and PM.
  • During the project Construction attend the progress meetings to provide updates as needed.
  • Accompany the RE and PM during the routine inspection and/or the final inspection (final walk-through) according to the PM availability and desire.
  • Review with RE any invoice(s) with respect to the finished work quantities and amounts billed prior to the PM approval unless otherwise directed.
  • Responsible for the task close out documentation including the final acceptance reports.
  • This is a full time on-site position and requires ability to work overtime if required..
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate
  • 3 years’ experience in inspection of civil, mechanical and/or electrical construction.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient in math and English.
  • Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment; read and interpret roadway plans and contract specifications; maintain detailed records, and communicate effectively with agency, contractor personnel and the public.
  • Dependable transportation is required.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education beyond High School
  • MARTCP Certifications
  • OSHA 10 and E&S Certifications
  • Prior experience with MDOT MTA/SHA/MDTA  
  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment guidelines and regulations.
