Public Relations Manager

The Public Relations Manager is responsible for the development of public relations (PR) campaigns and strategies with an emphasis on earned influencer marketing and celebrity engagement across the Pokémon brand’s portfolio of consumer products, entertainment, select video games, and mobile applications. The position is also responsible for developing and executing traditional public relations strategies and programs for the popular Pokémon animation program and select other initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Coordinate earned influencer marketing programs, strategies, and best practices on behalf of Pokémon consumer products (Trading Card Game, Pokémon Center), select video games and mobile applications, scripted entertainment (animation), events, and other products/programs.

  • Work closely and collaborate with other PR Managers to integrate influencers/influencer programs into their PR plans and tactical executions.

  • Liaise with internal business groups and their external partners on Pokémon Influencer Marketing best practices and guidelines.

  • Work with agency partners to build out and maintain roster of influencers to work with the Pokémon brand

  • Coordinate and execute a celebrity engagement program on behalf of the Pokémon brand and associated products.

  • Develop and execute publicity plans and strategies for Pokémon animation series, movies, and other scripted content.

  • Provide strategic PR guidance to parent company for the localization of PR-heavy programs developed in Japan that will be executed in or impact local markets outside of Japan.

  • Support additional Pokémon branded programs, projects, and events as needed.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in communications, journalism, marketing, or combination of equivalent working experience

  • 5-8 years progressive marketing experience in communications and or public relations preferably with family entertainment, consumer products, or video game experience.

  • Demonstrable ability to plan strategically on a global scale, work effectively with international stakeholders and ensure brand consistency across divisions, time zones and territories.

  • Extensive experience and expertise in working with influencers and building influencer marketing programs for consumer products, video games, and/or entertainment properties.

  • Proven track record of executing programs domestically and internationally

  • Experience working with and managing agency partners

  • Experience and success in Product Launch management

  • Experience and success in Product Launch management

  • Experience collaborating closely with internal stakeholder teams such as Product Marketing, Social Media, Licensing, etc.

  • Strong project management, creative concept, and plan execution skills

  • Established press and influencer contacts in the video game, family entertainment industry and consumer media is a plus

  • Experience publicizing animated content, television/streaming series is a big plus

  • Experience working with celebrity partners or engaging celebrities is a plus

  • Experience working for or with Japanese companies/brands is a plus

  • Experience working in Latin America markets is a plus

What to Expect

We offer a professional, fun and creative work environment. While we maintain a good balance between work and life, additional hours may be required at peak times or for specific initiatives. This position may require occasional domestic or international business travel (10-15%).

The Pokémon Company International, a subsidiary of The Pokémon Company in Japan, manages the property outside of Asia and is responsible for brand management, licensing, marketing, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the animated TV series, home entertainment, and the official Pokémon website. Pokémon was launched in Japan in 1996 and today is one of the most popular children's entertainment properties in the world.
