Construction General Manager

Description

The General Manager must be thoroughly familiar with all aspects of the company including: Operations, Sales (estimating & business development), Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Safety, and Customer Service. This individual will ensure quality, profitability, and growth in all areas of the company. The role will require effective cross-functional and collaborative teamwork to achieve business results.

 

Reports to: The General Manager reports directly to the Business Owners.

 

Skillset and educational requirements:

  • Minimum of ten years experience in the Construction Industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably within the Carpentry/Construction/Project Management Industries).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and must be insurable on the company’s insurance policy.
  • Proficient in both oral and written communications.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, e-mail use, and estimating software.
  • Strong track record of delivering operational and financial results.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Sales:

  • Build strong relationships with the customer base and ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Consistently meeting/exceeding annual sales goals.
  • Regularly visiting customers and being present on job sites.

 

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Extensive carpentry, building, and renovating experience required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and staff at various organizational levels.
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative spirit and sense of urgency, strategic thinking, innovation, and forecasting ability.
  • Solid listening skills
  • Proven ability to develop and implement new strategies in a competitive business environment.
  • A track record in successfully managing a business through change. Accepts accountability for the need to consistently achieve targeted goals.
  • Ability to develop talent – both as individuals and teams. Strong coaching ability. Commitment to hiring and retaining the best and acting on marginal performance.
  • Ability to provide strong leadership and build confidence – should be a clear, strategic thinker with a willingness to take a more hands-on, operational approach where appropriate.
  • Energetic, open, and direct manner. Must have the stature and confidence to make difficult decisions.
