Reporting to the National HR Business Partner, the Human Resources Advisor (VANCOUVER LOCATION) partners with the store management team to create an exceptional employee experience guided by our values of Passion, Excellence, Warmth and Unity. 

The HR Advisor dedicated to supporting Management through the full employment life cycle by coordinating and executing a wide variety of programs to support the attraction, selection, engagement, development and retention of talent.  As a trusted advisor to the business, this role provides sound HR counsel on the interpretation and application of HR policies, procedures, programs and employment legislation.

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • The first point of contact for Management and non-management employees for a wide variety of Human Resources matters; provide guidance and advice to employees in the interpretation and application of HR policies and procedures, informing on relevant federal and provincial employment legislation, advising on routine employee relations matters. 
  • Escalates complex issues to National HR Business Partner
  • Provide support and coaching to the store management team on performance management, talent development, employee relations and other People related topics
  • Partner with the National HRBP to achieve annual HR objectives and advise on key HR project work, including implementing national programs and executing organizational change.
  • Monitor employee trends within store (retention, attraction, performance, engagement) and work with National HRBP to create solutions to address nationally and locally with store leadership.
  • Identify gaps or issues and execute on continuous improvement of HR programs and processes to improve the overall employee and manager experience
  • Actively participates in the execution of People programs including annual performance review process, training and development, compensation and employee benefits, employee onboarding and health and safety
  • Use effective conflict resolution techniques to help resolve employee issues
  • Support and maintain a culture of strong employee engagement by seeking and/or coordinating continuous feedback from associates through floor walks, 1-1 meetings, and focus groups; identifies issues and trends and makes recommendations for changes as required; coordinates employee engagement events and activities
  • Works as a member of the broader People team, including Center of Excellence (COEs), to resolve issues, provide feedback and information on trends and support program execution.
  • Facilitate People related workshops and information sessions
  • Oversee disability management process and liaise with managers and third-party Disability Case Manager on employee leave of absences

The ideal candidate:

  • Minimum 4 years of post-university work experience in a Human Resources Generalist capacity 
  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in human resources, industrial relations or a related discipline
  • CHRP designation an asset
  • Understanding of provincial employment legislation required
  • Experience with coaching line managers on HR processes and supporting them in strengthening their leadership skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and the ability to manage competing priorities in order to meet the needs of client groups
  • Experience with being the front face of HR, representing policies and practices to managers and employees across the organization
  • Understanding HR practices and experience in regional capacity is a plus
  • Proven effective stakeholder management and collaboration with other teams to deliver a consistent employee experience
  • Workday experience and/or HRIS experience an asset
  • Effective time management, planning and organization skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Solid influencing skills with the ability to get things done 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a team player who is able to act as both a leader and an individual contributor as required
  • Confident and effective communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Is adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change 
  • Highly service-oriented with exceptional organizational and follow up skills
  • Strong computer skills are required including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
