Canada’s most iconic and leading luxury retailer, Holt Renfrew is seeking a Social Media Director, Marketing, based in Toronto. The Social Media Director will serve as a member of the Marketing Team and report into the Divisional Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations. The role aims to add a visionary social media leader and proven marketer to the company to strengthen its leadership position in the category, re-energize the brand to attract new audiences and leverage innovative and digital platforms to acquire and engage customers.

The Social Media Director takes marketing to the next level by developing and spearheading digital experiences that differentiate Holt Renfrew, while ensuring complete integration across all owned channels and consistency with the company’s overall goals. The director will lead and develop the social media team and serve as the strategic expert and thought leader in social and digital. This role will consult with creative, public relations, merchant marketing and marketing communications teams to bring campaigns to life on social media through digital content. As the strategic social media leader, you will recommend, and design Social Media & Content based on best practices and performance and give recommendations on initiatives to maximize the customer experience, revenue and customer base. Innovation is paramount to this role and you will be responsible for identifying and utilizing emerging trends, platforms and technologies. An important aspect of this role is designing the best digital brand experiences and campaign integration to drive new customers, promote traffic and boost Holt Renfrew’s brand’s image.


Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Lead development of social media planning and activation across all owned platforms
  • Create new strategic thinking across the board, and optimize performance across all social media activations 
  • Partner with cross-functional departments to drive omni-channel social strategy that engages our customers at every touch point; media, merchandising, analytics, etc.
  • Lead evaluation of social media platforms
  • Partner with the analytics teams in monitoring and reporting on social media performance. Analyze performance to develop reports, auctioning key findings and strategic optimizations 
  • Stay current in social media and digital marketing trends; continuing to educate wider teams on innovations, creative strategy, and maintain digital leadership within the industry 
  • Create and enforce social publishing and engagement best practices
  • Lead and develop a team of best-in-class Social Media strategists


The ideal candidate:

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field
  • 10+ years post-university work experience, including minimum 7 years in a leadership role specializing in social media
  • Dynamic leader with ability to motivate & develop multiple direct reports
  • Communicate effectively & persuasively with others, and establish credibility with senior management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a team player who is able to act as both a leader and an individual contributor as required
  • Is adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change 
  • Highly service-oriented with exceptional organizational and follow up skills
  • Demonstrates a curiosity and interest in the luxury retail industry
