Position Summary

Freedom House welcomes well-qualified applicants for this in-country contract position that will work on Freedom House's ongoing project in Armenia. The Project Associate provides essential support for the day-to-day administration and coordination of project activities, advocacy and outreach with civil society, government, academia, diplomatic and international NGO community in Armenia, in close coordination with the resident Project Specialist and Freedom House staff in Washington, DC. The Project Associate’s duties will include, but not be limited to, programmatic, finance, logistical, administrative, research, writing and data analysis support to the assigned portfolio.

This position is a full-time equivalency, based in Yerevan, and will report to the resident Project Specialist. Freedom House will not sponsor residency or work permits for this position, therefore only applicants with the legal right to live and work in Armenia will be considered. The hiring for this position is contingent upon receipt of funding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Specialist in the implementation of project activities to ensure successful achievement of project objectives and reporting requirements

  • Facilitate the collection of high quality data from Freedom House and from local partners for quarterly monitoring and evaluation reporting

  • Liaise with Freedom House’s network of partners in Armenia to ensure proper preparation of financial reports in compliance with Freedom House and donor rules and regulations, including reviewing partner financial reports before they are sent to DC, responding to partner questions and requests regarding reporting, and supporting DC program and finance teams responsible for reviewing subgrant reports

  • Assist in drafting submissions for periodic reports to the donor

  • Coordinate logistics for travel, meetings and public events, including procurement with vendors for meeting space, invitation lists, and catering

  • Attend external meetings and partner events on behalf of Freedom House and prepare notes for staff briefings and periodic reports to donor

  • Maintain, promote, and post content in social media platforms

  • Track and update program expenditures on a daily basis, prepare expense reports and payment requests

  • Create, maintain, update and analyze team databases for contacts, vendors and others as assigned

  • Participate in required communication with the Freedom House Washington, DC office to report program progress on the ground

  • Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in Political Science, Law, Journalism, Public Communications, Public Administration, or similar field

  • Two-three years of related experience or combination of education, training and experience; NGO, media, or communications experience a plus

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in Armenian and in English, both verbally and in writing; fluency in Russian is a plus

  • Strong knowledge of human rights principles and mechanisms, and understanding of democracy promotion

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and grant-related compliance requirements

  • Mastery of MS Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience coordinating travel logistics and organizing “camera-ready” public events

  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times

  • Demonstrated ability to apply interpersonal skills, and successfully work in a diverse and multicultural environment

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and meet all goals and deadlines

  • Excellent time keeping and attendance at all times

  • High work standards, adherence to procedures, and responsibility for assigned tasks
