Responsibilities:

·         The United States Air Force (USAF) Concepts, Development, and Management (CDM) Program Office conducts the planning and acquisition of cost-effective, critical capabilities in order to support the war-fighting mission of the combatant commanders.

·         The Data Scientist to work within the Combatant Command Intelligence (CCI) Enterprise Management Support Office (EMSO). EMSO assists the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence OUSD(I) in modernizing, aligning, and integrating enterprise CCI capabilities as part of the Defense Intelligence Enterprise. EMSO focuses on information technology centric gaps and builds consensus across the community for enterprise solutions, and provides decision support for CCI enterprise management, management of capability area portfolios, and conducts material solution analyses when required.

·         The Data Scientist will be supporting an organization that will be developing and integrating forward-looking technologies to enhance the DoD worldwide mission, maturing its architecture of hardware, software, and advanced intelligence problem solving.

Required Experience:

The Data Scientist supports the production and the continued advancement of data analytical processes and techniques within the operational and technical aspects of Defense Intelligence Enterprise (DIE) programs, policies and concepts at CCI EMSO. The successful candidate is someone who creatively approaches a variety of requirements to meet intelligence needs, can balance work on multiple tasks, and work collaboratively with other scientists, engineers, and analysts in a collaborative, dynamic, cross-functional environment. The Data Scientist is responsible for producing applied research in the intelligence field. They will apply critical thinking skills to ‘real world’ issues and be able to effectively appraise collected data/information using a variety of analytic techniques and methodologies.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·         Extract data from a variety of sources (databases, web, text files) and in a variety of formats (structured, unstructured, JSON, etc.) and prepare the data for analysis

·         Describe data using qualitative and quantitative aggregation/summarization and build tools (static reports, interactive dashboards, web applications) that allow clients to easily view and understand important patterns and trends in the data

·         Provide quantitative comparisons of data points using advanced statistical analysis including data reduction techniques, resampling, as well as traditional statistical hypothesis testing

·         Construct and validate predictive models using a variety of techniques

·         Prepare analytic products in written, oral, visual, and/or multimedia formats.

·         Devise open-source research and collection management practices.

·         Facilitate and manage intelligence processes and practices.

Qualifications:

The candidate must have the following qualifications:

·         A minimum of 5 years’ experience producing applied research in the intelligence field

·         A minimum of 5 years’ experience working within the intelligence community

·         Extensive knowledge of research methods in intelligence, and in intelligence theories and applications

·         Strong problem solving and structuring skills

·         Ability and desire to take ownership of and initiative for analysis; from requirements clarification to deliverable

·         Strong technical communication skills; both written and verbal

·         Ability to understand and articulate the "big picture" and simplify complex ideas

·         Ability to identify and learn applicable new techniques independently as needed

 Experience in techniques such as:

  1. Text Analytics (natural language processing, feature identification, frequency, network and relationship generation)
  2. Data Analytics in conjunction with analysts to develop dashboards and bespoke decision aids
  3.  Visualization with industry common libraries and display systems
  4.  Graphics Production using PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, and HTML5
